5 Ways to Straighten Your Smile

Posted on 7/24/2023 by Evan
5 Ways to Straighten Your SmileMany people, both children, and adults, have crooked or misaligned teeth. Several factors can cause this misalignment, such as jaw size, poor dental care, genetics, poor nutrition, and even facial injury. If you want to straighten your teeth, but you are unsure about your options, below are ways to straighten your teeth to give you that perfect smile;

Metal Braces

People have used traditional metal braces for many years to straighten crooked teeth. They work by constantly applying mild pressure on the teeth, this assists in gradually aligning the teeth. On average, braces take two years to fix crooked teeth, but this duration depends on the severity of the case.

Ceramic Braces

Unlike metallic braces, the wires and brackets of ceramic braces are clear, or tooth-colored. This means that they do not stand out as much as metallic braces. Ceramic braces can also straighten your smile. The duration of treatment with ceramic braces is like that of metallic braces. However, ceramic braces cost more than metallic braces.

Invisalign

Invisalign is a great way to straighten your teeth. Dentists customize these clear trays to fit your mouth and you wear them over your teeth. They are also removable. The dentist also replaces them after every two weeks. They shape each new set differently to increase pressure on the teeth so that they can move into the correct position.

Retainers

Retainers are a custom-made wire device worn on your mouth over the teeth. Dentists typically recommend retainers after treatment with braces or Invisalign. However, your dentist may recommend a retainer without wearing braces. The dentist will recommend a retainer if they deem your teeth only slightly misaligned and require little change.

Tooth Recounting

Also known as enameloplasty, tooth recounting is a process where some of the tooth enamel is removed to change the shape of the tooth. It is a quick and painless procedure. Dentists also use this treatment in minor misaligned teeth to give you a straight smile.

The best treatment method for you will depend on the severity of your misalignment. It is important to consult with a dentist who can guide you on the best treatment option.
