The Use Of Fluoride In Dental Care

Posted on 7/10/2023 by Evan
The Use Of Fluoride In Dental Care Fluoride comes from the ionic form of fluorine and is mostly found in soil, water, rocks, air, and certain types of foods. Over time, fluoride has become an integral part of dentistry treatment and is incorporated in most kinds of toothpaste and mouthwash products.

Functionality

Fluoride safeguards against tooth decay by reversing and preventing any further development of cavities. The chemical elements in fluoride work to fight off bacteria that tend to damage gums and teeth. Fluoride is also a great stimulant for bone rejuvenation and development. Studies show that teeth and bones hoard up to 99% of the fluoride consumed. Lab technicians and other experts can tell the levels of fluoride concentration in either saliva, bones, plasma, hair, teeth, or urine. Fluoride makes the enamel resilient to any form of acid attack from plaque accretion. For young children, the components in fluoride are instrumental in the growth of permanent teeth and thus safeguarding against demineralization.

Fluoride Treatment

Dentists smear fluoride to the teeth either in the form of varnish, gel, or foam. Normally the treatment is done using a brush, mouthwash, or a swab. You will be required not to eat or drink anything for at least 30 minutes after the application. This is to ensure that the fluoride fully absorbs without watering down the effect. Other times, the doctor will endorse fluoride supplements available in either tablet or liquid form.

According to the American Dental Association, you should seek out professional fluoride treatment every 6 or 12 months. However, this is dependent on the state of your oral health. Although fluoride is a natural compound, it is advisable not to consume it in high doses. Extremely high doses can expose you to conditions such as dental and skeletal fluorosis. Make a point of visiting us at least once a year for an advanced fluoride treatment. We can pledge that you will be in the safest of hands.
