What Do Exams Entail if You Have an All-on-4?

Posted on 12/10/2021 by Evan
What Do Exams Entail if You Have an All-on-4?An All-on-4 refers to a prosthetic set of teeth supported by four dental implants. It is also called an All-on-Four or All-in-Four. This is a unique dental solution for patients with badly damaged or decayed teeth or no teeth at all. All-on-4 is a replacement system of missing teeth that provides a permanent replacement for either the upper or lower set of teeth. The All-on-4 technique uses the bone on the front part of the jaw as an anchor point. This revolutionary system has restored hope to many dental patients. Following this procedure, it is important to continue having routine dental exams.

Your Dental Exam With an All-on-4

Your dental exam will look like a regular dental exam in that we seek to examine your teeth and professionally clean them. At your routine checkup, we will remove your All-on-4 implant for the purpose of inspection and cleaning. We will make sure that it is performing functionally as well as clean it for you. We will also carefully examine the condition of the soft tissue on which the prosthetic rests. By looking at your gums and soft tissue, we can identify problems in their earliest stages.

Brushing and flossing your All-on-4 is crucially important. While brushing is about the same, we suggest using a soft-bristled electric toothbrush. You should continue to remove food debris and plaque from your teeth twice a day. Floss very gently around your implants. Use a coated floss product as uncoated floss can irritate your gums. Consider using a waterpik in conjunction with brushing and flossing each day. Lastly, it is important to have your regular dental checkup and exam every six months.
